About

David Russell is a communications professional, diplomat, and photographer based in London. His career at the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office has spanned Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, working on some of the most consequential foreign policy and strategic communications briefs of recent years.

In 2021 he was posted to India, where he spent four years as spokesperson and head of communications at the British High Commission New Delhi, leading an integrated team across media relations, digital, marketing, and events. During this time he led the UK’s communications effort during India’s G20 presidency and the UK-India free trade agreement negotiations.

It was during his time in India that his photography grew from a long-standing interest into a serious practice. He now works on long-form documentary, portraits, and fine art projects. The country’s extraordinary people, its chaotic cities and diverse landscapes, inspired a different way of seeing and understanding the world.

Prior to New Delhi, David served as deputy spokesperson at the UK Representation to the EU in Brussels from 2017 to 2019. Before joining the FCDO, he worked in public relations at Thomson Reuters.

He holds a BA in English Studies from the University of Nottingham and an MSc in Politics and Communication from the London School of Economics.
